Cobalt(III) Catalyzed Allylation of C-H bonds of Arenes

Cobalt(III) catalyzed allylation of chelation assisted C-H bonds of arenes have been accomplished employing allylcarbonates. The important features of the present reaction include the use of directing groups such as pyrazoles and pyridines, wide functional group tolerance and the synthesis of various allylated (hetero)arenes in good to excellent yield. Based on the observations, plausible mechanism is also proposed via the alternative formation of π-allyl species.
