Clinicopathologic, misdiagnosis and survival differences between clinically amelanotic melanomas and pigmented melanomas

•Risk factors for amelanotic melanoma are poorly understood. Patients with amelanotic melanomas may be more likely to be older, have non-melanoma skin cancer and red hair; less likely to have many nevi or family history of melanoma. Clinicians should be alert to amelanotic lesions in patients with these factors.
