Abstract: A simple and environmentally benign protocol for a Kabachnik-Fields reaction of aldehydes, selanyl amines and diorganylphosphites catalysed by niobic acid (Nb2O5.nH2O) has been described to provide selanyl alpha-amino phosphonates under solvent-free reaction conditions. 77Se {1H} and 31P {1H} NMR were used for diastereomer quantification, mechanism investigation and stability evaluation. In addition, in vitro experiments were carried out to investigate the antioxidant and anticholinesterase activities of the selanyl alpha-amino phosphonates. The in vivo and ex vivo experiments were carried out to investigate the potential antinociceptive effect, as well as the acute toxicity. In summary, the current study demonstrated that this class of compounds has an important potential to act against oxidative stress and in the treatment of painful clinical conditions.
