The microbiome of the nose

The human body harbors 10 trillion to 100 trillion microorganisms, vastly outnumbering the quantity of human cells.1 The microbes and their genomes located within a particular area are defined as the microbiome. Microbiomes can be found in all different types of hosts, such as plants, animals, and humans. Research into the human microbiome surged in the late 2000s with the launch of the Human Microbiome Project.1 This project aimed to identify and characterize microorganisms located on environmentally exposed surfaces.
