General paresis of insane: A forgotten entity
Shri Ram Sharma, Masaraf Hussain, Debojit RoyNeurology India 2020 68(2):487-488 The manifestations of CNS syphilis are unfamiliar to a differential of patients with dementia to many physicians today as of the relative rarity of this condition. This is a classical case report of a patient with syphilis and dementia in a 55-year-old female. General paresis of insane is a progressive disease of the brain leading to mental and physical worsening. It is important to consider tertiary syphilis in the...

The Collective Action Problem but Not Numerical Superiority Explains Success in Intergroup Encounters in Verreaux’s Sifaka ( Propithecus verreauxi ): Implications for Individual Participation and Free-Riding
Abstract Socioecological theory predicts that larger groups are able to gain better access to resources because of their numerical advantage in intergroup contests. Nevertheless, the numerical superiority hypothesis has received mixed support, perhaps due to the collective action problem and sex differences in strategies and payoffs. We tested the numerical superiority and the collective action problem hypotheses using 141 intergroup encounters in a 7-year dataset on 5 groups...

Radiolabeled cCPE Peptides for SPECT Imaging of Claudin-4 Overexpression in Pancreatic Cancer
Introduction: Overexpression of tight junction protein claudin-4 has been detected in primary and metastatic pancreatic cancer tissue, and is associated with better prognosis in patients. Non-invasive measurement of claudin-4 expression by imaging methods could provide a means for accelerating detection and stratifying patients into risk groups. Clostridium perfringens enterotoxin (CPE) is a natural ligand for claudin-4 and holds potential as a targeting vector for molecular imaging of claudin-4...

Peptide Receptor Radionuclide Therapy with 67Cu-CuSarTATE is Highly Efficacious Against a Somatostatin Positive Neuroendocrine Tumor Model
Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy using radiolabeled octreotate is an effective treatment for somatostatin receptor 2 expressing neuroendocrine tumors. The diagnostic and therapeutic potential of copper-64 and copper-67, respectively, offers the possibility of using a single somatostatin receptor targeted peptide conjugate as a theranostic agent. A sarcophagine cage amine ligand, MeCOSar, conjugated to (Tyr3)-octreotate called, 64Cu-CuSarTATE, was demonstrated as an imaging agent and potential...

Repair of orbital floor fractures via the transantral approach with osteosynthesis plate
Abstract Introduction The most common surgical access techniques employed in patients with orbital floor fractures are associated with a risk of complications, such as implant infection, migration, epiphora, lower eyelid retraction, ectropion, diplopia worsening, retrobulbar hematoma, emphysema, “white-eyed” syndrome, enophthalmia relapse, hypoglobus, and persistent diplopia due to periorbital atrophy. Consequently, alternative access...

Eyelid Complications Associated with Surgery for Periocular Cutaneous Malignancies
Facial Plast Surg 2020; 36: 166-175DOI: 10.1055/s-0040-1709515Periocular skin is highly prone to malignancies, especially basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. Because of the complex anatomy and eye-protecting functions of the periocular tissues, treatment of these cancers requires special considerations. Mohs micrographic surgery is usually the treatment of choice, whenever possible, in order to enhance margin control while limiting collateral damage to nearby normal structures. Cancer excision,...

A 19-year-old girl was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and showing polydipsia and polyuria. She was double autoantibody-positive and had a diabetes-prone tissue type. She was immediately started on insulin. Fenofibrate treatment (160 mg daily) was initiated seven days after diagnosis. The need for insulin quickly declined, and she took her last dose of insulin 19 days after the first dose of fenofibrate, having regained endogenous control of blood glucose concentrations. Tinnitus: Current Understanding of an Age-Old Problem
Tinnitus, the perception of sound where there is no external sound stimulus, has long been part of the human experience. Because of our current noisy society, this condition affects 1 in 10 adults.1 However, it did not begin with the Industrial Age. There are references to it in Hindu ayurvedic medicine, where it is considered an imbalance of vata dosha, or the wind element, and in classical China, where it was thought to be caused by an imbalance of yin and yang. Mesopotamian remedies included exorcism...
