The metallation of 1,3-diiodoferrocene (A) provides novel ferrocene-based D,C,D-containing (D = O, S) pincer type ligands η5-CpFeη5-C5H3-1,3-[P(D)R2]2 (1; D = O, R= OiPr, 2; D = O, R = OPh, 3; D = S, R = Ph). The corresponding organotin derivatives η5-CpFeη5-C5H2-1-SnPh3-2,5-[P(O)(O-i-Pr)2]2 (4), η5-CpFeη5-C5H2-1-SnPh2I-2,5-[P(O)(O-i-Pr)2]2 (5) and η5-CpFeη5-C5H2-1-SnMe3-2,4-[P(S)Ph2]2 (6) are reported as well. The compounds are characterized by elemental analyses, 1H, 13C, 31P, 119Sn NMR and IR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses (3 and 4).
