Vegetating lesions in secondary syphilis

Abstract

I read with great interest the article by Thakrar et al.1 about oral ulcers as a presentation of secondary syphilis. However, I do not share this clinical description. Apart from an optical effect, photos seem to show elevated lesions from the basis rather than loss of substance, therefore such lesions should be named as vegetating lesions and not ulcers. Ulcers and ulcerations refer to a loss of substance from the base. Vegetating lesions are very classical in secondary syphilis.
