Clindamycin alone may be enough. Is it time to abandon rifampicin for hidradenitis suppurativa? Reply from authors

Abstract

Thank you for your response to our letter. Your very recent study adds another twist to the discussion of Hidradenitis (HS) treatment with antibiotics. Based on your study it seems that clindamycin alone and clindamycin and rifampicin combined reach about the same clinical results. This may suggest that rifampicin does not add anything. However, given the enhanced metabolism of clindamycin in the presence of rifampicin another interpretation is that rifampicin and clindamycin may be about equivalent. Unfortunately, effectiveness of combination treatment cannot be neatly added, subtracted and divided.
