EUS targeting of vascular thrombosis: Risky business?

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is an adverse event frequently encountered in cancer patients, depending on tumor type and stage, and on chemotherapy or other interventions.1 Cancer-associated thrombosis includes both deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism, but also splanchnic vein thrombosis.2 These appear through direct tumor invasion or as remote malignant thrombi localized at a distance from the primary tumor.3 Up to 20% of patients with cancer will experience DVT, whereas up to 20% of patients with VTE are cancer patients.
