For a long time I am thinking of starting to learn how to fly small planes. But does it really make sense? Wont planes be fully AI like cars will quite soon? Investing a huge amount of time to learn a skill that will not be useful, sure it's leisure time but still makes me wondering if it's worth it.. submitted by /u/aelaos1 [link] [comments]

Humans (and probably all animals) from a very young age can dream and imagine possibilities outside of personal experiences and all have a survival instinct that drives them to develop new strategies for accomplishing difficult tasks. Today I watched my dog learn to open and get through a spring hinged screen door. She has never tried this before in 5 years but suddenly she wanted in and I was slow getting up so she pushed and backed up several times until she finally pushed hard enough to get...

Isaac Asimov's rules for robots: Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics" A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law. Can you think of scenarios where a robot/AI would have to violate law #1? submitted by /u/solar-cabin...

Since (almost all) futuristic technologies could likely cause negative impact instead of positive, here are the bone-chilling technology examples that should never be allowed to exist (listed in no particular order): Weaponized Nanotechnology Nothing could end our reign here on Earth faster than weaponized — or severely botched — molecular assembling nanotechnology. It's a threat that stems from two extremely powerful forces: unchecked self-replication and exponential growth. A sufficiently nihilistic...

https://watchers.news/2019/06/23/scientists-patent-energy-saving-universal-computer-memory/ From "Scientific Reports". A new method of recording/deleting working memory in computers could revolutionize computer operation energy costs without sacrificing time. It's 100 Times more efficient than current DRAM. Lancaster Uni in UK reports invention of system and patents. Huge efficiencies & Progress in Computer Memory storage and access!!! submitted by /u/herbw [link] [comments]
